Our Research
The Wosczyna Lab investigates the molecular and cellular mechanisms that govern tissue maintenance, regeneration, and systemic metabolism. We focus on the role of mesenchymal progenitor and stem cells in these processes, using skeletal muscle and adipose tissue as primary model systems.
We have shown that mesenchymal stromal cells in skeletal muscle are potent drivers of aberrant tissue infiltration and are now working to uncover the molecular mechanisms underlying these detrimental fate transitions. Conversely, in their progenitor state, these cells support tissue health, and we aim to define the cellular and molecular mechanisms responsible for this beneficial role.
Using progressive mouse models of disease alongside advanced in vivo and molecular assays, we aim to define how progenitor cell states influence tissue health. Ultimately, our goal is to leverage this knowledge to improve tissue maintenance and regeneration in both pathological and aging contexts.
